Supply Chain Visibility

Information is the first line of defense. Supply chain partners must begin to share information earlier in the logistics management process. It’s time to look outside your own four walls. Companies that facilitate supply chain visibility will aid in security efforts and also realize significant commercial benefit, including better equipment utilization, lower repositioning costs, more reliable transits, lower inventory, improved cash flow, greater sales and lower insurance premiums.

Supply Chain Visibility Leads to Better Security

Greater supply chain visibility will give government agencies and ports the information they need to focus on suspect shipments, analyze risk and track terrorists in the case of an event. The core problem in visibility continues to be a lack of timely information sharing among the various players in the supply chain. Horizon Services Group is working in cooperation with ports and supply chain partners on projects to improve the flow of information from origin to delivery.

Shipment Information Management and Visibility

HSG has developed a working systems infrastructure to send and receive thousands of data messages weekly. HSG currently manages live feeds from shippers, ocean carriers, railroads and trucking companies covering the movement of containers throughout the supply chain. JAXPort Cargo Container Visibility System

The Port of Jacksonville has engaged HSG in a pilot program to develop better visibility and efficiencies by gathering data on all containers moving through the port. While appropriate government agencies are working with us to see how this will help support supply chain security efforts, JAXPort is looking forward to developing commercial benefit for users of the port.

The Container Visibility application currently being developed for deployment at the Port of Jacksonville will provide the benefits of improved cargo and port security by providing containerized cargo visibility and operational efficiency through automation of current processes.

A web-based portal will provide JAXPORT operations and security personnel with real-time information about the containers and commodities scheduled to arrive at the port. Security personnel will use this information to better screen containers entering and exiting the port property, monitor and protect of assets while on port property, and respond to threats that involve containerized cargo. Security personnel will also use to portal to receive information from steamship lines, terminal operator, and agents to uphold appropriate marine security levels and comply with government regulations.

The portal will provide Port Operational personnel with a searchable and customizable view of all vessels scheduled to arrive for the purposes of planning berth capacity and to staff all operational areas (dock, gate, etc) appropriately. The process of submitting container information to the Port Authority for billing purposes, crew lists for security “hold-on-board” purposes, and Declaration of Security and vessel provisioning information for security purposes are all being automated in order improve the collection and use of this information.
